Capoten inhibits angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) which transforms of angiotensin I into angiotensin II. Role of the latter is to contracts muscles surrounding blood vessels, thereby narrowing the vessels and hereby causing high blood pressure. Thus intake of Capoten causes blood vessels to enlarge or dilate, and blood pressure is reduced. Arterial hypertension, chronic congestive heart failure, functional disorders of left ventricle after myocardial infarction and clinically stable condition, diabetic nephropathy caused by type I diabetes.

Dosage and direction
Dosage depends on your condition, age and should be administered by your doctor. The medication should be taken on an empty stomach one hour before or two hours after meals two or three times daily.

Precautions
Avoid drinking alcohol. If you drive or perform work associated with high concentration of attention be especially attentive. Do not take the medication if you are pregnant. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements. Drink plenty of water if you have diarrhea or vomiting as lack of water in your body caused by it may lead to extreme low pressure while taking Capoten.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of this medication or inhibitors of ACE, pregnancy, breastfeeding. Capoten should be administered cautiously in case of kidney or liver diseases, heart disease or congestive heart failure, diabetes, cerebro- and cardiovascular diseases, severe autoimmune diseases of connective tissues, suppression of bone marrow hematopoiesis, low Na+ diet, advanced age and others.

Possible side effect
Dry coughing which disappears when discontinuing of the drug. Other side effects may appear as abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, rash, dizziness, fatigue, headache, loss of taste, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fainting and numbness or tingling in the hands or feet. In case of allergy or any serious manifestation of the listed side effects contact your doctor for consultation.

Drug interaction
Increased potassium levels at concurrent treatment with ACE inhibitors and with potassium supplements, salt substitutes or diuretics may be observed. Thus potassium levels should be monitored The level of lithium may increase if it is used together with ACE inhibitors. Aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may reduce the effects of ACE inhibitors.

Missed dose
If you forgot to take a dose take it as soon as you remember, but not if it is almost time of the next intake by your schedule. In case it occurred skip the missed dose. Do not try to compensate a missed dose by taking an extra one.

Overdose
If you suspect that you took too much of the medication and experience extremely dizzy or light-headed, or fainting seek for immediate medical attention.

Storage
Store at room temperature, 15-30 C (59-86 F) in a dry place.
