Pravachol is a cholesterol-lowering medication which used to treat high cholesterol or to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, or other heart complications in people with coronary heart disease. Pravachol works by helping to clear harmful low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol out of the blood and by limiting the body's ability to form new LDL cholesterol.

If your cholesterol level in plasma is rather high (e.g. cholesterol level more than 300 mg/dL), the initial dose of the medicine could be increased up to 40mg/day.
